1 – NZ Rare Disease Day, 29 February 2012.
This is the third year for observance of NZ Rare Disease Day and this leap-year, even the day is rare. We are focusing on NZ Rare Disease Day 29 February 2012 as an opportunity for all support groups, however small, to have fundraising events.

Our New Zealand Rare Disease Day website has all the information and resources needed to run a fundraiser in you school, workplace or community. Follow the easy steps, download and print the posters, and away you go.

  • A rare day for rare diseases is NZORD’s theme for NZ Rare Disease Day 2012.
  • All rare disease groups are encouraged to take part.
  • Online donation via NZORD allows donations with confidence to unincorporated groups.

Promote a rare day for rare diseases as the theme for mufti-day or dress-up day fundraisers. An easy steps guide sets out how to run the event. Get involved, and good luck with your efforts.

2 – Congratulations to Mike Gourley, supreme Attitude Award winner 2011.
Mike Gourley’s many years of service to the disabled community were recognised with the Making a Difference Award at the 2011 Attitude Awards, followed by receipt of the ACC Supreme Award at the same event. Mike has devoted many decades of energy to improving the inclusion and participation in society of disabled people. His awards are richly deserved. Read more at this link.

3 – Need a website for your group?
NZORD provides 40 websites for rare disease support groups and related networks in the health and disability sector. We are offering more website to groups who do not have one, or whose existing website needs a makeover or a more up-to-date content management system. Charitable grants enable us to offer quality sites at no cost to small groups. Contact us if your group is interested.
