MOH respite care strategy
In July 2017 the Ministry of Health released the disability support services respite strategy for 2017–2022, entitled Transforming Respite.
The strategy aims to put the power of choice and greater flexibility with the user and their whānau/family. It includes an expansion of the currently available respite options, taking a longer term view of funding allocation and making the administration and payments system easier to use. The focus is directed towards improving existing services as well as promoting innovative options. The MOH framework for respite care encompasses the goals of both the New Zealand Health Strategy and Enabling Good Lives.
