Expectations for PHARMAC from Minister of Health

4 July 2018

The letter, sent to the Chair of PHARMAC on 20 June, states that one priority for the 2018/2019 year is to “work on ensuring fair consideration of medicines for people with rare disorders, and in particular, progressing the initiatives identified following the rare disorders pilot.”

The Minister requests a report on PHARMAC’s work on medicines to treat rare disorders in November 2018. This may explain the tight timeframes PHARMAC has put around the current Request for Proposal (RFP) for rare disorder medicines.

NZORD will continue to keep a close eye on the outcome of PHARMAC’s call for funding applications for medicines for rare disorders, and will keep all our stakeholders informed.
